How to Avoid a Broken Heart

To love at all is to be vulnerable.

Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken.

If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal.

Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness.

But in that casket—safe, dark, motionless, airless—it will change.

It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.

  1. I wanted to introduce myself. I found your blog from the Holt forum. Our daughters are one day apart. She is with Eastern though. I am excited that you have already received your EP and I will pray that you get to travel sooner than expected. Unfortunately, with Eastern there is a huge backup and it looks like we won't be traveling for another 2-4 months. Your blog has been inspiring to me. I have another friend who's daughter is also with Eastern and shares the same birthday as ours. You can find her blog through mine. My address is www.olsovskyfamily.blogspot.com and her blog is in my blog list ( you will fill me with joy). Thanks for the inspiration and especially the scripture.
